I haven't been entirely lazy this month. I pimped my workbooks to match the earrings I bought in Ghana. I think Garvey would be proud.

Last day of BHM and I just remembered that I have a new, never worn, large, black, blkem T-shirt to give away courtesy of Uncle Dave. It looks like the one I'm wearing in my profile pic. If I hadn't been so lazy this month (honoring my ancestors who had to work for free you know) then I would have thought of some clever contest to choose a recipient. If you're interested, then leave a comment, and I'll draw a name tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. EST

After learning about the Kente cloth, we were prepared for the Asante naming ceremony by Kofi, the subchief of the village.

Look at all that beautiful cloth behind us. Don't let anyone tell you that your ancestors were running naked in the jungle before slavery.

What is Kente and how it's made?
Here's a bit of what we learned.
1) It is woven a cloth of various designs
2) It is made by a Kente weaver. In the Ashante region of Ghana, the weavers are men.
3) Used for adornment, originally for royalty
4) The designs and colors communicate a message

In short, if you bought it at Target, it's probably NOT Kente.

The black star of the Ghanaian national flag is a symbol for the emancipation of Africa and unity against colonialism. The black star was adopted from the flag of the Black Star Line, a shipping line incorporated by Marcus Garvey which operated from 1919 to 1922. It became also known as the Black Star of Africa. It is also where the Ghana national football team derive their nickname, the "Black Stars".

In Florida we had a secret democratic primary last year that declared Biden the winner with no one voting. I'm considering switching to the other side to vote in the GOP primary with the hopes that the unfavored, unlikely, and historically disingenuous Haley can be pushed to a state victory. If Nimarata gains national momentum and bags the GOP nomination, 45 will run independently, splitting the GOP vote. Hopefully, Biden will panic and start meeting some demands as he watches his base dwindling. I know it's a long shot, but what else we got barring finding a better candidate to support?

I keep hearing black people complaining about Senator Tim Scott being an embarrassment. Imo he's only an embarrassment to himself and his ilk. I've never considered him part of my tribe. If all skin ain't kin then he's just another irrelevant minstrel show, but one that will be quite entertaining should Trump pick Haley as his VP instead of him.

33° at 9am in the Sunshine state. I think I'll skip the beach today.

Biden better have my money.

Why do people come to work, not work, expect the rest of us to pick up their slack, but keep quiet about it? I conspired with my coworkers today to take action against these slackers. If I gotta do extra, they're superfluous.

Family Kwanzaa Activities, pt. 3:

Politics
Education
Business
Criminal justice
Neighborhood Safety
Neighborhood beautification
Voter education
Voter engagement
Civic engagement

Family Kwanzaa activities, part 2.
4. Shop black all week. Meet as many needs and wants that you can with black-owned/black-invested vendors.
5. Volunteer at a non-profit organization that benefits the community.
6. Attend a community Kwanzaa celebration.
7. Folk-tale night. Entertain with a reading or reenactment of an AFAM or African folktale.

Family Kwanzaa Activities:
1. Take a trip each year during Kwanzaa 2A black big bookstore and allow everyone to choose a book that they will read in the coming year. This will help the family get educated about things pertaining to the community. By next Kwanzaa each member can share what the book was about or members of the family can swap their titles and discuss those things throughout the year and at next Kwanzaa
2. Poetry Night-each person recite a piece by a black poet or recite your own work.
3. Eat out at a black-owned or black-invested restaurant, preferably before the 31st!

Just got back from Ghana a couple of days ago, and now I'm fighting a cold. More pics later. But I brought back some cool stuff to decorate for Kwanzaa. Come, the table is set. Let's celebrate ourselves!

I heard my jams first on the radio, then in movies, then on commercials, then in grocery stores, and now they're being played with a full string orchestra in an elevator.

This was part of a longer interview which was very informative. I suspected the US was involved, I just didn't know how. If we support the organizations resisting these destabilization efforts, we can help free the Congo.
